Anna Goodwin for District Court Judge

Support Anna Goodwin for District Court Judge. She has spent her entire legal career in Union County, beginning with the District Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted cases in District Criminal, Superior Criminal, and Juvenile Court. Anna was the first prosecutor assigned to Truancy Court when it began over 10 years ago. Since 2011 she has worked as a solo practitioner in Monroe, where she has handled cases in all areas of District Court, including Child Support, Family law, Department of Social Services, Juvenile Delinquency, Criminal, and Traffic Court. Anna also maintains a felony practice in Superior Court, where she has tried more than 30 jury trials over her career. Her experience in District Court and throughout her entire legal career more than prepares her to be a judge in District Court.

Anna is a Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist and Juvenile Delinquency Specialist, and she is the first attorney in North Carolina to receive this designation. Since North Carolina enacted “Raise the Age” on December 1, 2019, her experience in juvenile court is vital to ensuring that all juveniles are treated fairly and appropriately under the new law.

Education

Anna graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in 1998 and Duke University with her Bachelors in Biology in 2002. She attended the University of Richmond School of Law as a John Marshall Merit Scholar and graduated magna cum laude in 2005.

Experience

Since 2011 Anna has worked as a solo practitioner in Monroe, where she has handled cases in all areas of District Court, including Child Support, Family law, Department of Social Services, Juvenile Delinquency, Criminal, and Traffic Court. She also maintains a felony practice in Superior Court, where she has  tried more than 30 jury trials over my career.

Married

She has lived in Union County for almost 15 years and has been a life long resident of North Carolina. Anna is married to Andy Goodwin, who is a native of Union County. Her husband is a Union County Sheriff’s Deputy, having served the citizens of Union County for over 20 years.

Family

Anna and her husband have three children, all of whom attended Union County Public Schools. Additionally their family has grown to include their three grandchildren. Anna has been an active volunteer with UCPS, with Central United Methodist in Monroe, and she is an active platelet donor with the American Red Cross.
